Ezra J. Washington

Ezra J. Washington holds a Masters of Music from Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond Virginia, and a Bachelors of Instrumental Music Education from Old Dominion University. He is currently under a teaching licensure for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Professor Washington has been a Director of Bands and music teacher in the public schools for over 13 years. The majority of his time as a teacher was spent in a high school band program. While there he was in charge of Concert Band, Marching Band, Percussion Ensemble, Jazz Band, Music Theory, Music Production, and Athletic Bands. During his time as Director of Bands he traveled with his students from Virginia to Atlanta Georgia, for the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl, Walt Disney World, and NYC to march in the annual NYC Veterans Day Parade two separate times!

Prior to his university experience, Prof. Washington was honorably discharged after 5 years active duty in the United States Marine Corps, where he served as an electronic repairman. For part of his time he was deployed for a year to Oki Nawa Japan, and to Kuwait and Iraq for Operation: Iraqi Freedom.

Since 2003, Ezra has been an active member of his church praise teams, and has served as a Minister of Music. In addition, Prof. Washington has been employed as Adjunct Faculty at Tidewater Community College, teaching private woodwind lessons.

Prof. Washington's primary instrument is alto saxophone, yet he plays electric bass, keyboards, drums, produces music, and also works as a wedding DJ with his wife Emily and their joint owned special events company.
